Picnic in Florence

I have a food allergy so we are renting an apartment in Florence with a full kitchen. I plan on packing some snacks and a lunch in my day bag. Are there any places in Florence where we could sit and eat our snacks or lunch? (not a picnic basket, blanket, etc...just a small bag lunch)

Thanks,
Kim

Thanks for the idea of Fiesole! I know how to take the bus to that location. Thats a great idea for a lunch with a view.

I'd definitely recommend Piazzale Michelangelo which overlooks the city. I've picnic-ed there a few times myself.

yes, Fiesole has a lovely view but it does take a bit of time to get there and back. Not a place to go if you are looking at a place to have a quick picnic/lunch.

I go along with Stuart & Sally. We were there an hour before the sun started to set. Little tables on a cliff hanging patio (open to the public - N/C) and enjoyed a couple of drinks and snacks. I can't begin to tell you, the absolutely beautiful view of all of Florence. And watching the sun set over it was a memory I will never forget. There's a bus to take you there and I suggest walking the winding road back down which goes along the lamp-lit river back into the city....sigh!

Really any of the piazzas with benches will do. Probably the least inviting (no benches!) is Piazza Signoria, but depending on what else you are doing that day and where you are, you can grab a bench in Piazza Santa Croce, Piazza Indipendenza, Piazza Repubblica and Piazza Santa Maria Novella to name a few.
