Picnic after Borghese Gallery visit?

We have a 3:00 reservation at the Borghese and were planning to walk thru the park to Piazza del Popolo after our visit.

I just came across a recommendation for GiNa picnic baskets and think this sounds so lovely!

Was wondering if this would work- and is my timing reasonable?

-Campo de Fiori, Jewish Ghetto in the am- 10-12:30ish.

-Take cab to GiNa to pick up picnic basket then cab to Borghese Gallery- (in cab to the gallery by 1:45?)

Would we be able to check the picnic basket at the bag check at the gallery?

Any suggests on a route to take thru the park or a good picnic spot?

Thanks as always.

Sounds like a lot of trouble, to me -- there's a sandwich wagon in the park, and we got sandwiches and sodas and just wandered around. But that's just us, may not be you.

If you plan to tour the synagogue and museum, you might add an hour.

You will have to check the picnic basket at the Galleria Borghese.

1: Agree with the previous poster that you're not leaving enough time for the Ghetto.
2. With a 3:00 reservation at Borghese, you don't really want to be there until more like 2:30.
3. Maybe get a panini or something in the Ghetto? Then get to Borghese by 2:30.]
4. I don't know for sure they'll even "check" a picnic basket at Borghese. Don't know what
the rules are re keeping food items.

Hmmm...well OK- sounds like the logistics are a bit crunched. We were not planning to tour synagogue/museum but perhaps should leave time for that just in case.

I know it's a bit of trouble and we are probably more like you Laura- just grab and go type of people- but the romantic novelty of it appeals to me. This would be at the end of our 18 night trip.
We do have another evening that might be better for this plan- just seemed to fit this day since we will be at Borghese!
And I sure do not need to decide now ;)

I did find this in RS Rome book- Borghese info- for others who may be curious:

Or buy a picnic beforehand, check it with your bag and feast afterward in the picnic-friendly park.<<

Checking picnic food items in an unrefrigerated space, for some period of time, food items that might have condiments (mayo, etc) that would need refrigeration--might be a reason to pause. Nothing like food poisoning on your last night in town, or anytime.

I don't think the Borghese will check your basket either, and it wouldn't be a good idea to leave the contents unrefrigerated too long. A better idea would be to grab something in the Ghetto or get to Villa Borghese early and have lunch at one of the cafes in the park before your reservation.

Good point Kent.
This is not our very last nite- but food poisoning not romantic or appealing at anytime!
And now that I think about it- lugging a picnic basket around/deposit/return not appealing either.

Thanks.

The Galleria Borghese has a coffee shop/bar with sandwiches, salads, snacks, drinks, pastries. Not a big selection but several choices of each. You should check for hours of operation, though, they may close by the time your visit is over.

There is also at least one good sit-down restaurant in the park, or there was a few years ago when I ate there.
