I'm trying to decide if i should pick my rental up from termini or another location. I'm particularly concerned with the ZTLs and less so with the traffic, etc. Any info would be great. Jim

If you are planning on using the car while staying in Rome, that will present numerous problems. On the other hand, if you are planning to get the car at Termini and then to promptly leave Rome, I've done that a few times with no problems. The Hertz cars are garaged a few blocks away from the Termini rental counter and the route from the garage out to the beltway is an easy straight line. No ped-only zones are involved.

When we rent a car in Roma it is always at Stazione Termini. Some companies like autoeurope.com and europecar.com have cars at the station and the others have a garage a few blocks down the street. We also use our GPS with the European maps on a sd card. The GPS is invaluable, but not infallible. Buon viaggio,

We will be leaving Rome after picking up the car and touring Tuscany. Also, is it easy to return a car to the station as opposed to Orvieto and the takingthe train?

Yep, when you come back make your initial entry off the freeway from the three o'clock position on the A24? (or whatever the main highway is) and you'll zip right in and avoid any pitfalls.
