We will be staying in the Spanish Steps area of Rome and then driving to Tuscany. Just wondering whether it is best to rent a car at the Termini Train Station or at the airport. (How difficult is it to get out of Rome?)

One of the favorite ways recommended often on this website is to take the train 1hr. north to Orvietto and rent your car there. This way you avoid getting out of Rome all together. A rental car in Tuscany is a great idea.

Thank you for the advice. We will probably do that. Our only complication is that we are flying home from Venice but it looks like we can pick up in Orvieto and drop off in Venice through Avis with a not-too-ridiculous charge.
