Piazzale Michelangelo - 2 Part Question

Hello, during this trip back to Florence we want to go up to Piazzale Michelangelo for the view and perhaps hear the vespers. We didn't make it up there on our last trip.

Our hotel is on Vicolo Marzio by the Ponte Vecchio. I know there is bus service that goes up there. Are we better off just taking a cab up from the hotel rather than going all the way to the bus station and taking the bus?

Second part of the question is once we are up there, is there a restaurant that someone would recommend or are we better off walking back down to a restaurant?

Thanks in advance.

Hi - we took the bus there and walked back. If you google maps "Piazzale Michelangelo" and then "search nearby" for restaurants, you'll see several, including La Loggia.

You are only minutes away from the Piazzale by walking !

If you want to go to vespers at San
Miniato, it's a bit further up the hill.

You don't have to go to the bus station to get the bus, you can pick it up near one of the bridges crossing the arno and at other spots. It is also a comfortable walk -- but taking the bus up and walking down is good. You could take the bus to San Miniato stop and do the church and vespers and then walk down the hill to the Piazzale and the view. In summer with late sunset you would still have light and there are tremendous pictures from the plaza in front of San Miniato out over Florence as well as the iconic photo from the Piazzale.

I have eaten at several places including la Loggia and would recommend eating once you are back down off the hill in the center.

Bus 12 and 13 will take you there and then you could walk back since it's downhill.

We took the bus up and it was about a 15 minute trip from Piazza Cesare Beccaria. We took a taxi back to Santa Croce for €10-11. I would have walked but we were traveling with my 80yo mother...
