****Piazza Navona

Hello all, Just decided to keep Rome in our Europe itinerary from Dec 30 - Jan 2. I have shortlisted a few hotels near Via Firenza which located near Termini station ( those hotel listed in TA as top hotel in Rome). After much searching, i found out that most travellers recommended Piazza Navona?? Given a short stay of 3 nights in Rome, should i chose this area instead? Can someone please share your experience and recommend a hotel/apt/b&b for 2 pax in this area? Wondering how is Romans celebrate new year eve. Any fireworks? ;p Many thanks in advance.

Hi MJ. We prefer Piazza Navona area. In fact, we are there over Christmas, leaving on Dec 31! We stayed at Palazzo Olivia (1 and 2 bedroom apts) last fall, and will return there for this trip. Very convenient location for walking to many sites, about a 13 euro taxi from Termini. You can walk to the Colosseum in about 20 minutes one direction, and 20 minutes the opposite direction to St. Peter's. Busses nearby, as well as the tram to Trastevere. Be sure to eat at Cul de Sac, just around the corner.

That time of year you'll have the XMAS market going on in Piazza Navona and the city will be decorated in lights. Official Fireworks do occur in various spots in the city on NYE - of course, the best firework action is at Piazza del Popolo from 22:30 on - go at your own risk! See this article for more info: The Christmas Season in Rome. You might look at these three postings about hotels in these central areas: Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon Area. These links give you access to the best-rated hotels and B&B's, as determined by Venere and Booking .com guests. Rome is great fun during the XMAS season - Enjoy!

We love the Piazza Navona section of Rome as it's well located to many typical Roman sites. And it's great place to stroll at night after dinner watching all the folks watching all the folks. We stayed at the Delle Torre Argentina just down the block from Largo Argentina. It proved to be a fairly central location as it's near the Pantheon, the Victor Emmanual Memorial and the Imperial Forum, and Campo de Fiore. Look for good rates on Trip Advisor and ask for either room 501 or 502..they are the "penthouse" rooms with large terraces and terrific views of the Pantheon. We didn't pay extra for it either.

We stayed at Bed and Breakfast Al Centro di Roma in May and really liked the location. A block or two south of Piazza Navona. Pretty central to sightseeing locations. Breakfast was a cappuccino and a pastry, but it held us over for lunch. Windows block out all the busy sounds of the street. Owner we only saw when we checked in, but he did respond to our emails.

I have been staying at a hotel near the Pantheon, so quite close to Piazza Navona. If you are interested in which one, feel free to message me. We've been quite happy and got a pretty good rate compared to similar hotels in the area.
