Piazza Armerina Overnight?

Leaving Erice after 2 nights and planning on 1 night in Piazza Armerina then drive to Siracusa for 2 nights. Now I am thinking I should just drive to Siracusa for 3 nights and make a day trip to Piazza Armerina. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I love Piazza Armerina! But staying in Siracusa may be just as convenient, with a longer drive to the sites of Morgantina and Villa Romana del Casale. Siracusa has a big parking garage near the daily market in Ortigia, the oldest part of the city.

You could easily see Piazza Armerina, Villa Romana and Morgantina in one long day. I would start early in Morgantina, then Villa Romana, then Piazza Armerina.

Personally, I'd spend the night in Piazza Armerina. It's a charming little town and you won't have to spend 3 1/2 hours driving back and forth to and from Siracusa. From Erice you could drive to Agrigento, visit the remarkable ruins and museum and then head to PA. Then spend the night, view the mosaics and drive to Siracusa. Remember that fuel in Italy is quite expensive and lost time can't be replaced.

I agree with Philip. What do you see as the advantage in staying in Siracusa instead of Piazza Armerina? The main disadvantage is backtracking. It also seems like you could use a stopover some place in between Erice and Siracusa, and Piazza Armerina is on the way. Having said that, if you could reach Piazza Armerina from Catania instead, that would be the shortest distance.
