I'm not ready to fork over $350 for a Kindle, but I do have the free Kindle app on my itouch. What are good travel books or phrase books to add? I note that many of Rick Steves' books are not Kindle-available.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any Phrase books or Guidebooks available yet for the IPOD Touch. There are several language dictionaries available in the App's store, some of which may include phrase listings. You might have a look at the WordRoll series.
There are a few difficulties in making guidebooks available in electronic format. First, these are usually a bit less expensive than the paper versions, so may dilute the sales of "normal" guidebooks. Also, some of the maps and other diagrams may not "translate" well to the smaller screen of an IPod.
