Phones in Rome, Italy airport?

Can anyone suggest how best to acquire a phone in the airport in Rome? Name of company? Better to rent or to buy? What to expect in terms of expense? We will not have a sims card phone with us, so we need a full package, not just a way to change out a sims card.

Celeste, It's highly unlikely that you'll find phones to rent, but you'll be able to buy a PAYG phone from one of the Italian networks (TIM, WIND, Vodaphone). I usually use roaming with my home network, so don't have any information on the costs of PAYG plans in Italy. You could also look at buying an inexpensive phones from one of the "travel phone" firms. That way you'd have a working phone as soon as you arrive in Europe. Happy travels!

Thanks for this word - my question has to do most specifically with what is actually available for PAYG phones in the Rome AIRPORT not just in the city. Anyone have any details on that? Or ideas of cost?

Celeste, Have a look at www.roninrome.com/ transportation/where-to-meet-at-fco for some information on the Smartphone store (scroll down to see the photo). Some of the phone shops are in the departures area, so may not be too accessible. Cheers!

I bought a used Motorola v190 quad band unlocked cell phone on ebay for less then $20 delivered. You buy a sim/tim card in Italy to make it work. That seems like the smart thing to do.
