phones in Italy

Last year we bought phone at Les Halles and a chip at a tabac. The guys at the tabac set up our phone. Now we are going to Italy. Will I be able to buy a chip at the airport? Is there a customer service center where the person might make the call for me like they did at Charles de Gaulle?

Not sure about airports but there are Vodafone stores everywhere including major train stations. They can put a SIM card in any American phone and set everything up for you.

If you are flying into Milan (MXP), there is a VodaFone desk down on the same level as baggage claim

sandy,

If you bought the phone in France (Les Halles?), it's most likely unlocked. Therefore it should work with a SIM card purchased in Italy. What type of phone is it? You didn't say which airport you'd be arriving at, so it's difficult to offer much advice.

sandy,

Thanks for the additional information. I'm not sure if there are any phone retailers at VCE, so you may have to wait until you get into Venice. I'd suggest asking the staff at your hotel for the location of the nearest shop. I believe there's a WIND shop at Venezia Santa Lucia rail station. If you'd prefer Vodaphone or TIM you'll probably have to go into the main part of Venice.
