Phone Card Question

When traveling through Switzerland last year, I discovered that an international phone card (e.g. TeleCom) worked equally as well for calls within Switzerland.

Can anyone tell me if this is the same in Italy? Or is it necessary to purchase separate cards for international & in-country calls?

Thank you.

Hi Kit,

I purchased a card at a local tobacco shop in Rome when I was there in 2005 and used it throughout Italy and the U.S. When I went to purchase it, the clerk asked if it was for use to America, however it worked everywhere. I believe it was 5 euro and gave you a tremendous amount of minutes. I actually found myself calling people to try and "use it up" after 2 wks in Italy.
Hope this helps!

I was just looking at the phone card advertisements in the window of a "call center" today. They did list how many minutes you got for local and how many for international on each of the cards sold. So yes, they are good for both. Although international cards are sold that are good for calling any country, the ones that are specific seem to give you a better price. If you buy an Africa card, you will get more minutes for your 5 euro than if you buy a regular international card and use it to call Africa.
