We have just found out that we have an opportunity for my husband (Texas state police aviation) to meet some Italian law enforcement pilots while we are in Italy! One is in Pescara, in the Abruzzo region. It doesn't appear easy to get from Rome to Pescara via train. Any other thoughts, hopefully not involving a rent car? What else is there to do or see in Pescara?
Any input on this? Thanks!
there are several direct trains daily from Rome Tiburtina to Pescara. They are regional trains and take about 4 hours. Find the schedules on www.trenitalia.com there is also direct bus service from Rome Tiburtina to Pescara from several companies. Generally direct with no changes and take about 2.5 hours. Here is a link to some info on the bus. http://irsps.sci.unich.it/education/geoplanets/reach_PE/reach_pescara.pdf
I found the bus to be the best mode of transportation from Rome to Pescara. Pescara is a beach resort. Although in the summer, it is quite crowded and you may prefer to go up or down the coast for a smaller beach town. If you choose to rent a car in Pescara for a day, take a car ride to the Gran Sasso Mountain or lake area. Check out Abruzzi area on the internet and you will find that there is alot to do. Food is awesome. Have a safe and fun trip.
