Perugia - Perugina Chocolate Factory

Just wondering if anyone has ever been to this chocolate factory. We will be in Assisi for 3 days, and will be taking a day trip to Perugia. I understand that there is a wonderful chocolate factory there that does have tours, but am unsure of what I need to do, or where I can find any information about it. I have been researching, and don't have anything concrete. Thanks for any help you can give!

I have been researching, and don't have anything concrete. For research Google Advanced Search is your best friend. I entered these words, Perugia Chocolate Factory, in the all these words box and got many websites of information on what you're looking for, including this one, the first hit: http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/umbria/pb_perugina.htmAfter you check it, return to the search to see the other hundreds hits.

Don't quote me on this...but seems like there were a lot of individually owned candy/chocolate shops in the downtown area. I think asking the TI will be your best bet. I went a few years ago for the yearly Chocolate festival. It was insane. Artists on stages carving statues out of giant chocolate blocks and tossing the scraps into a fanatical audience. It actually scared me.

I studied in Perugia for a semester and a group of us went and did a tour of the Perugina chocolate factory. It wasn't very structured. We basically just showed up and asked for a tour. A lady brought us quickly through the factory... and then we ended up getting a huge bag of chocolate. It was alright, but I don't think I would spend your only day in Perugia at the chocolate factory. There are many little cafes and chocolate shops which sell the Perugina chocolates and are located right in the historic center of the town.

I lived in Perugia for 4 months and it became one of my favorite towns in Italy. There is a great ceramic fair every Tuesday morning behind the duomo where you can get cheap ceramics which are made by hand in Deruta. The main street, Corso Vanucci, is a great place to take a stroll, stop off for a cafe/gelato and just enjoy a nice day. If you want a great place to eat, look for Il Paiolo, located very close to Corso Vanucci.

Buon Viaggio!
