We will be in Perugia in July. Would welcome any suggestions for hotels. Thank you.
We stayed at Hotel Perusia, just outside the city walls. The room was huge by Italian standards and the staff was very friendly. They had great, extensive breakfasts as well. I think they might have even had eggs (always a high point for breakfasts in my mind!). There's a small pool on the roof with amazing views. I had some of my favorite meals in Italy at the hotel restaurant (Canto Sesto).
The only drawback to the hotel was that it was a 10-15 minute walk into the city center, and there were a lot of hills in that short walk.
Several years ago we stayed at the Hotel Fortuna on Via Bonazzi, which is located about 70 meters from one of the 2 connected main piazzas. It was very nice and the staff was very friendly. You can also use veneer.com and tripadvisor.com to find an accommodation.
Buon viaggio,
RB
Yes, I know about tripadvisor and venere.com but, a couple of times I've book hotels w/ good reviews from both sites and the hotels were awful. Two yrs ago my trip to Milan was almost ruined from the nightmare hotel I booked through venere. I find that people on this board are much more reliable when it comes to suggesting hotels, etc.
Thank you both for your suggestions. I will definitely look into them.
Last October we stayed at the Hotel Sant'Ercolano, a modest, clean little hotel with friendly staff and a decent continental breakfast. I thought our room was a bit small, and they graciously showed us a few more and we took one with a little balcony overlooking the rooftops to distant Assisi. I think we paid about 80 euro for 2. Tucked away in a little street, around the corner from a great cheese/deli type shop for picnic shopping. Easy walking anywhere in Perugia center. Wherever you stay in Perugia, learn about the minimetro...an excellent option for getting up the hill into town from the train a/o bus station.
