Perugia for 24 hours

Hi Travel friends

I will be in Italy for a wedding in Naples in mid September.
I have booked 2 nights in Rome on my way home, to fly out of FCO. As I have been to Rome many times, I am now thinking that instead of hanging out in always wonderful Rome,
I would prefer to visit Perugia (for the first time), even if just for 24 hours. ( I can see things fast).

Could I train it to Perugia from Naples,
stay in a center of Perugia hotel and
see most sights in 24 hours from that locale?
What would it take to accomplish this?

Then the next day, I would train it to Rome, check into a hotel have dinner, and the following afternoon fly home.

I am excited at the prospect of seeing a new place:)

How feasible does this seem?

Thanks all,

J

Another option that’s closer to Naples is to spend one day at Caserta. There’s an amazing royal palace there with huge grounds - be sure to take a golf cart ride out to the end and through the forest.

Caserta is just an hour from Rome on a Frecciarossa fast train.

I have been to Perugia and enjoyed it, but it’s certainly not as convenient to go there. Here’s what I did during my two days in Perugia:
