In researching numerous towns within a 2 hr or less train/bus ride from Florence (for day trips), I ran across Perugia (new to me) in some old posts on this Forum. One post said that Perugia Fontivegge is the town's main station which connects to the minimetro going to the town center. But on Trenitalia that station is not listed, the only stations are Perugia, Perugia Capitini, Perugia S. Giovanni and Perugia S. Anna. If we finally winnow down our (way too large!) prospect list and Perugia is on the final list of towns to visit, can someone tell me which station is the correct connection from Florence SMN?

In the Trenitalia website select the PERUGIA only station. That is the main station that is also known as Fontivegge.
There are many more places that are within 2 hours from Florence via bus/train and are closer (and maybe better) than Perugia. To name a few:
1. Siena
2. Lucca (you can add Pisa to it too)
3. Arezzo (and also Cortona just a bit further, you can kill both in a day)
4. Pistoia
