Perugia

I have noticed that the RS guidebooks don't list too much about Umbria. We plan to spend one night in Perugia on a week long trip this April We will travel from Florence to Perugia. Should we take a train or bus? Do you have any restaurant suggestions for this city? Thanks for your help!

I drive, but the train station is right in the middle of town.

Your problem is that you'll only have one night there. RS needs to go out and 'discover' it, I guess. Great place, you'll enjoy it.

the train is probably easier than the bus for most people unless you speak italian; from the train station, take the local bus up to the town at the top of the hill. As for restaurants, I've been there a few times and enjoy the restaurants with seating on the big piazza for people watching with good food. If you want higher-end restaurants, look at some of the other guides as they cover Perugia.

The mini metro in Perugia is a good option for scaling the heights from the stations. I wish we'd discovered it sooner during our stay in Perugia.
