We are getting a private driver to pick us up in Assisi and stop in Perugia on our way to Siena. We have 2 hours in Perugia. Suggestions on a place to eat for lunch...and maybe a must see Piazza.?
Sorry I don’t have any restaurants to recommend, but upper Perugia is compact enough so that you can’t miss the major piazzas. I would say that one of the most interesting sites was San Michele Arcangelo, a circular church dating from the 5th - 6th century. It is located near the northern gate (Ponte Sant’Angelo), which is a short walk from the city center.
Several years ago Good Friend and I had a lovely meal at Al Mangiar Bene. Beautiful trattoria just off the main walking street through the old part of town. Great reviews. They specialize in pizza but I recall really enjoying my pasta, veggie and wine. We had a reservation. almangiarbene.it. Their website says that they take reservations ONLY by phone: Tel. 075/5731047. This was definitely the best meal that we had in our several days in Perugia.
Thank you so much for all of the information!
Loft cafe. Via dei Priori, 6/8/10 06123 Perugia PG, Italy. It is in the top of the town, after you take the escalators up. About a 5-10 minute walk if I remember correctly.
Places we enjoyed eating lunches at in Perugia several weeks ago:
Osteria a Priori (maybe our favorite)
Osteria Pappabona
Al Mangiar Bene
If you want to spend more of your 2 hours NOT eating (i.e. quick street food):
Antica Porchetteria Granieri 1916 porchetta
Piada & Delizie torta al testo (there was at least one tiny table outside)
Places we didn’t make it to but thought we’d probably like:
La Bottega di Perugia panini
Cukuc for a light meal
La Taverna
