We are traveling to Florence in September and would like to engage a personal tour guide for the day. Any recommendations? We plan to walk most places within the city, but thought a local guide could show us some places off the beaten path that aren't usually on standard tours.

Through Eternity is an excellent company that offers guides in Florence (as well as throughout Italy, though the company is based in Rome). My husband and I took several of their in-person tours in Florence last summer and were extremely pleased. They offer general orientation/walking tours, visits to the Accademia to see David, guided visits of Uffizi, and just about anything else you care to request. They are professional and hire excellent guides - and they will take care of any ticket purchases and reservations for you! You can verify their good reviews on TripAdvisor. :)
We've signed up for two additional tours with them next month in Florence.
