I know that no cameras or bags are permitted on the Scavi tour, so I will do that before the tour begins. After the Scavi, we want to tour the Basilica. My question is about the logistics of the two. Does the Scavi tour end, close to where the bag check is located, so that our things can be retrieved quickly? If not, how much time do I need to allot between the two tours?

I took the scavi tour about 3 weeks ago. You exit right in the basilica. This basically saves waiting on line for the Basilica, going through security for the Basilica and needing to see the Basilica before you do the scavi tour. It was sort of a surprise exiting the tour climbing the stairs and then, oh my gosh we're in the Basilica.
