Performing Arts in Rome, Florence, and Venice

Hello,

I was supposed to take my theatre students (under graduates) to Rome, Florence, and Venice for 10 days in March, but Omicron happened and the trip was postponed until May, when the theatre season ends in Italy. I don't want to take them to those tourist-trap type opera performances. Does anyone have any suggestions for where in these three cities I could take the students to get theatre related experiences - tour of theatres, places where well known playwrights & performers lived, etc?

Thank you so much!

Used to be a music and dance festival in Florence, Maggio Musicale. Full-size operating replica baroque theater Romolo Valli in Reggio Emiglia, certainly can be toured. I haven't been, but the incredibly important Teatro Olympico in Vicenza is visitable. Plenty of Roman arenas, of course, including a small one in Fiesole if you're in Florence. I imagine Bologna has something.
