Paying for Heat in Tuscany

I've noticed that many of the villa and apartment rentals do not include heat. I'm planning a trip in October and am wondering how much this would add to my rental costs. Anyone have experience with this?

Hopefully someone else can provide you with a better estimate, but I would suggest if all else fails the heat that's "free". We took lightweight long underwear and a good jacket, dressed in layers, and were perfectly fine. Tuscany does get cool in October but not extremely cold, so as long as you are not very cold-sensitive, you will probably be fine.

We have rented houses and apartments in Tuscany since 2001. When we have used heat, at the end of our stay we are charged a fee for how much kerosene (I think that's what it was) we used. It has usually run about 10 euro per day, but I guess that would change with changing fuel prices. I would think that the rental company would be able to tell you how the charge will be computed. Although, if it is per unit of fuel used, it isn't that easy to calculate how much you are using. The times we used heat we were renting through Classic Tuscan Homes. They are a little pricey, but we always have had good experiences with them. We have rented La Certosa three times and Pancrazi once. They used to manage Casa Melody which we rented in 2001, but I think that property is now managed by Terretrusche.

By the way, I am always fine with bundling up, but my friends all wanted the heat on.
