Path of Gods hike

I will be in Sorrento this summer in Aug 2018. On my free day I would like to hike the path of Gods. Any suggestions on how I go about it? Bus, private transfer etc. Where should I start it to be going on a downward journey near the end and what is the cost? Thank you

It’s not easy to get to from Sorrento. Heck, it’s not exactly easy from Amalfi, which is the closest bus to the trail head. I did the hike and did not love it. I get it, it’s got a sexy name. But it’s just not worth the effort for most folks, especially with limited time. There’s so much to see or do in this area! I would choose almost anything over the hike. Just exploring Positano or Capri for the day would be a better use of that time.

We did the hike last week and were staying in Sorrento and thought it was well worth our time. We enjoyed it much more than exploring Positano (which we did afterwards), but everyone has different interests!

We looked into a lot of different options, including guided tours from Sorrento with transportation included, using cabs and/or public transportation, etc. We ended up going with a private transfer service, Transferelax, to take us to the trailhead in Bomerano, and we took the 3pm ferry back to Sorrento from Positano. It took us about an hour and 20 minutes to get from Sorrento to to Bomerano (Monday morning starting at 8am, lots of traffic getting out of Sorrento). We did the hike on our own, without a guide. We ran into some people on the trail who were also staying in Sorrento and took a cab, and we paid less for the private transfer and we were very happy with the service.

That is one option that worked for us. Personally, I couldn’t think of a bettter way to see the Amalfi Coast scenery, but I know plenty of people would prefer a more relaxing pace.

We did the walk from Bomerano doing a loop of sorts taking the upper path and returning using the lower path. The first part of the trail is the same with split occurring in a ‘saddle’ about 30min from Bomerano. We used the SITA bus to Bomerano from Amalfi. You could also walk to Nocelle and take the Positano town bus back down to Poistano. Or take 1700 steps ...

The hike is beautiful and is one of the few relatively flat walks we did.

Count me among those who really enjoyed the Path of the Gods. But I'm an outdoors/nature guy. Very little of my time on the Amalfi Coast was spent in cities. We stayed in Nocelle (population something like 138), up the mountain from Positano and a terminus for the Path of the Gods. We hiked a loop out and back with a local guide who taught us about the flora/fauna/history of the area. There is some ascent from Nocelle on the path, but this out-of-shape 40-something-old did it without much trouble. There is not much shade, so I would recommend hiking early, wearing a hat, and bringing plenty of water.
