depends what you consider "reasonable". Go to trenitalia and you can see how long it takes each way, and what times are available to go and return. Personally I've done it from Bologna, would consider it from Florence, would not do it from Rome.

Agree, it's too long a journey. Made the trip to Parma from Florence (changing trains in Bologna). Nice city, good food!

yes agreed, make this a day trip from florence.

My friend lives in Bologna and works in Parma. Since the commute is so bad traffic wise her comapny pays for her to live during the week in Parma. So I would advise in taking the train.
