Parking near Riomaggiore

I will be staying in May in a small town near Florence, and we are going to overnight one night in Riomaggiore. Is there parking near Riomaggiore anyone would recommend? I’m sure some people will suggest we take a train instead but I will need to park our car overnight somewhere in that where I’m staying near Florence is remote enough and not near a train station.

Several years ago, we stayed at Cinqueterre Residence. Nice hotel with private parking. Very high on the hill above Riomaggiore. You wouldn’t want to carry your bags up there from the train station.

If you stay in Riomaggiore then I would park in Riomaggiore. That’s where I park when I drive there.
As you arrive into town, the multistory parking is right there, at the roundabout at the beginning of the village. It’s not cheap (probably 35€ for a full 24 hours), but your car will be as close as it can be to your accommodations.

You could also park at the La Spezia train station and take the train, but I don’t think it will be much cheaper and if you park where I said, you won’t have to deal with hauling your luggage aboard crowded trains.

The last mile or so to descend onto town the road is narrow (just larger than one lane for two way traffic), so be careful and don’t scratch your car against the walls. Remember that the rule of the road is that the vehicle going uphill has the right of way, so on the way to town (downhill) if there are vehicles coming the opposite directions (going uphill) you will have to be the one to stop, move as close as possible to the side of the road, to let the other vehicle coming uphill go through. One the way out of town you are the one with the right of way.

Thank you Roberto, that’s very helpful, I’ve been debating about parking in La Spezia but I think you’re right. And yes, the cost isn’t very different and then you pay for a train or ferry so it’s almost the same.
