Where can we park if we are driving to Siena for the day from Volterra?

There are lots outside the walls, use Google Maps to find them

Thanks! And then you just walk in? Is it safe to leave things in trunk?
be aware of market day. I have friends who were supposed to meet a prescheduled private guide for a walking tour and they drove around for over an hour, including all around the stadium and never found a space (they were fine paying, there just weren't any spaces open). I believe market day was Wednesday, this was September 2025.
It's never safe to leave things in cars in parking lots. Sorry. Any way you can take a train or bus? Good luck!
We make a similar journey multiple times a year. There are lots of municipal car parks dotted around outside the city centre. Some are free, others have a small charge. The centre is traffic free.
Our favourite is Santa Caterina, the escalators that take you up to the centre are a god send on a hot day.
I don't understand the safety comments, it's a developed low crime country in general, and Toscana in particular is very safe. I leave things in the car all the time and have never had an issue. The one time I absent mindedly left my phone on the car roof a local came running up to me to reunite me with it.
I usually park near the stadium. Car break-ins in smaller cities like Siena are less common than large cities like Milan, however they occasionally happen. Take valuables with you and secure luggage in the trunk using a cable lock to prevent easy smash and grab (that is what I do). If you can, back the car against a wall or a tree, so that accessing the trunk will be more difficult.
