We will be in Siena for a day and saw that there was parking at the train station. We are traveling in a RV and need outside parking. Don't think it would fit in the underground parking. Is there enough parking outside and is it hard to get to the center of city? Saw there was an escalator. How much walking from the elevator to the center?
I have directions to get to the stadium parking coming from the north, but thought it would be easier for the train station parking.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
We are going to park at the train station in June. When we looked on Google Earth, we didn't see the parking so we are thinking that it might be underground? From where you exit the escalators, it is .8 of a mile to Il Campo. Looks like a nice little walk.
Just a suggestion that when you get the data, print out a map for yourselves. If you approach Siena with a GPS, the machine will try to take you right through the ZTL center of the city, because it's the shortest distance. I was unable to get my Garmin to "Detour" away from that. Try to find a landmark or address near the parking site, and put that into your GPS, instead of "Siena".
If you don't know what a ZTL is, find out.
Edit: You might want to check on possible restrictions about overnight parking or RV parking. Even in the USA, parking is not a Constitutional right!
Thanks. I have lots of paper maps plus GPS and have driven into the city using street view maps app. It allows you to go down almost every street in the town that you look for. It shows the parking at the train station and some vehicles are parked outside. By using the street view, I've written down the directions, street by street, to get to the free parking and just around the corner is the stadium parking.
This is just one city that we have to deal with as we are in Europe for 5 weeks traveling in the RV. This is our second time doing this and what a great way to see Europe.
I don't know if any of this applies to the train station, but we arrived around 1:00 PM in Siena last June and all of the lots around the city were full. We ended up driving around until we found a spot on the street which was a bit of hike away from the city center. You might want to consider entering the city at off-peak times considering the parking situation and an RV.
Park at the Parcheggio FORTEZZA . It's basically the parking lot all around the stadium and the Medici Fortress. Just follow directions to the STADIO (often symbolyzed by a soccer ball icon). Plenty of parking, and easy walk to the historical center.
When I went onto Parcheggio Fortezza's website, it said that they did not accommodate campers. You might want to double check before making firm plans.
If you have a large camper or a bus, then there are two possibilities:
1. Palasport
2. Fagiolone
The latter is closer to the historical center. But not by much.

Google Parcheggio Fagiolone or Parcheggio Palasport in Siena, on google maps, to see location.
