Parking in Piazzale Michaelangelo

Does anyone know whether there is a time limit on the amount of time in which one can park at Piazzale Michaelangelo? We are driving in from Pienza and we want to get into the city rather early (7:30am-8am) and stay until 9 or 10pm. Also, will the parking lots be open that early/late, or are they only open during certain hours? I have heard from some that this is a great place for free parking, and from others that it is difficult to park there. How early does the lot fill up? We can arrive earlier if necessary to (hopefully) secure a spot. Any other difficulties you've experienced trying to park here?

Frances, yes, I'm referring to the Piazza Michelangelo in Florence. And thanks, Kent!

Hello.
First of all I don't think parking at the Piazzale is free anymore. Last time I passed by I think I saw nothing but blue stripes on the stalls (blue stripes means pay, not handicapped, which is yellow).
It might still be free along the street that goes up to San Miniato Church, don't recall. It's always open and you pay at the machines. I'm in Piedmont now but I'm driving down to Florence tomorrow, although not staying too long in Florence, I'll see if I have time to check.

Thanks, guys! Looks like I will be parking outside of the city and taking either the tram or bus in.

Thanks, all, for the news links. I've passed those on, but don't have any in-person updates.

We parked at the Piazza Michelangelo in Florence on May 30th with no problem. We didn't get there until around 10 am and stayed until 7 pm without any problem.
