A short term rental hosts suggests we park our rental car in the public Talete parking area. He is not aware of any available private lots during our stay. I’ve heard some information questioning if there is a crime risk at the public garage. Is Talete parking safe, or is there a better place to park in Ortigia?

That garage is as good as any. We didn’t spend a night on the island so just used an hourly pay lot near the Talete garage.
The Talete garage is easy to get to. When you cross over onto the island, turn left, go to the end of the road, then turn right and it’s very close.

That's where we parked for the three nights we stayed in Ortigia. We don't leave anything in the rental car and we also remind ourselves that both times our own car has been broken into and stuff stolen it was parked in front of our house in a quiet residential neighborhood in St. Paul, Minnesota.
