Parking in or around Florence

We will be driving to Florence, Italy and staying 3 nights. Any suggestions about parking the car for 3 days. We won't need the car while we are there.

Thanks, but we will buy and car and own it for the trip in Europe.

Many hotels (even smaller ones) have arrangements with a reputable parking garage. They can also tell you how to get to and from the garage without entering a ZTL (limited traffic zone). But be warned, it's easy to accidently venture into a ZTL and the fines in Florence are stiff. Another option would be to park in one of the pay lots that ring the city or for free near Piazzale Michelangelo. The garage would obviously be the most secure place to park your car.

Do you already have accommodations for Florence? You might want to stay on the outskirts, just off the autobahn. We stayed at the Hilton Metropole. We used their free shuttle to take us in and out of the city. We parked the car at the hotel for free. Have fun on your trip. By the way, what car are you buying?

Check out Hotel David. It is a lovely, small, reasonably priced hotel (ranked #2 on Tripadvisor). It's a bit off the beaten path, but an easy, pretty walk along the Arno to the sights. And, to your question, they have a free private car park.

Thanks for all your advise. We bought a Peugeot from AutoEurope. We do have a reservation at a hotel by Santa Croce that we've stayed in before and loved because it has a view across the Arno up to Piazzale Michelangelo. We've never driven in Florence. Has anyone ever parked at the airport and taken a bus in?

What people here have done is park, or turn the car in, at the Florence airport and take a taxi from the airport into the Florence Centro. It's faster than the bus and the distance is not huge.

On a visit to Florence several years ago we parked our car in a ramp at the train station per R.S. book. It was only for a day but you can probably park longer. This past summer we traveled entirely by train so no car to worry about.
