Parking in Florence for Day-Trippers

We are planning to visit Florence on a day trip, and found out recently that the parking lot at Piazza Michelango is now closed?? Is this true? If so, can someone please advise where the public parking lots are now in Florence for those that just need to leave the car for the day? Thanks!!

Go on the Florence web site. Lots of parking surrounding the city center. Some is probably close to a mile or so walk in but it is there. Remember, in Florence to be extremely careful about the TLZs.

Thanks all!

Kent -- We've never driven in Italy, but we have driven all over Germany, France, Holland, Belgium and Spain. I am more concerned about our ability to find a parking lot that is a short walk into the city center of Florence -- I will check out the sites listed above. Do you know if the parking at Piazzale Michelangelo is open or closed now? I have read conflicting information about this...if it is still open for cars to park, does anyone know if it is best to be there very early by a certain time otherwise it would not be worth the bother to go to that parking lot after that time? Thanks!

you can drive safely to the center where you can choose to find a place to charge a public or private parking, considering that parking costs enough.

Does anyone know which specific parking lots are OUTSIDE the ZTL? And I also want to be able to walk into the historic centre from the parking lot (ie. not have to take a bus in). Thanks!

The small underground parking at Piazza Beccaria is relatively close to the city centre. The huge underground parking at Parterre (Piazza della Libertà) is another choice. Relatively unknown is the underground parking at Leopolda/Porta a Prato. All these parkings, while still within walking distance from the center, are linked by minubuses (lines C1, C2, C3) crossing the center.
