Hi, We are leaving tomorrow for Italy Woooo Whooo! I'm driving into Florence next week from the North and would like to know the safest/closest place to park our rental car? We will be doing the Academia and the Uffizi, plus the Duomo. Also having dinner at a place called Teatro del Sale on Via dei Macci 111r. Any suggestions? Can't wait! Thank you,
Michael & Sherry
How about returning your car as soon as you arrive in Florence. How long are you staying in florence and do you need the car afterward? The parking lot at the Fortezza da Basso is probably the easiest to access among those close to the city center.
Exit the freeway A1 at FIRENZE NORD follow the directions to the CENTRO (often accompanied by a symbol resembling the Target store logo). As you approach viale Belfiore you will see a bunch of 'P' signs (Parking lots). Follow the 'P' Fortezza da Basso. Plot it on Google Maps so you have an idea where you are going.
Hi again Roberto! Thanks for the advice. We aren't staying in Florence (we are staying an hour north in Barga) and will continue on to Sorrento, Pompeii and Rome for the rest of the two weeks. I'll write that down. Thanks, Michael & Sherry
Michael & Sherry, Especially in Florence, you'll have to be VERY careful to avoid the ZTL areas (expensive tickets), as the city is just about locked down tight with automated Cameras. If you make a wrong turn, there's often no escape. Roberto knows where all the Cameras are located, so I'm sure the car park he suggested is "safe". I assume that you'll be packing along an Internationsl Driver's Permit, which is compulsory for driving in Italy? Happy travels!
Hi Ken,
Yes thanks for the tip. We will stay far out of the ZTLs. And yep, I have it packed already - a copy for my notebook and a an emailed copy to ourselves with our other documents! 3 hours till pickup for the airport! WOOOOOOO WHOOOOOOOO! Michael & Sherry
