We will be staying in Cinque Terre for a few nights this October. The only parking I can find in RS books is above Vernazza. We want to stay in Manarola or Riomaggiore. Is this parking lot our only option? and if so, do we then need to take shuttle and train to other towns? Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
We parked in the lot above Vernazza but we were staying in Vernazza. You could park at one in Manarola or Riomaggiore. All the towns, except Corniglia) have lots, and hourly shuttle service to town. Riomaggiore has a stacked parking, and Monterosso had two lots, one free, and one guarded and paid (E12 per day). You could also park at Levanto and take the train into Cinque Terre.
We are staying at Locanda Del sole in Riomaggiore in Sept.
It has its own parking lot that is included in room rate.
Hi,
you can find some infos about parking on http://www.cinqueterre.com/eng/information/cinque_terre/where_car.php
bye
There are indeed parking lots high above the towns. But, during the high season, they do fill up and an open space can be hard to get. From the lots, there are mini-buses that will take you down to the towns. You will need to take the trains, walking trails or ferry to go between the towns.
There are a few hotels that do have private parking lots for their customers. With rare exceptions, tourist cars are not permitted in the five towns. Note, however, that there used to be one parking lot down by the beach in Monterosso. I believe that this is the one that you pay for. I think that it is a private lot.
We stayed in Riomaggiore in June and from what I could see a majority(in Rio) of the hotels had at least some reserved parking but would suggest you get in touch with the hotel and let them know you'll need a space so they can reserve it for you.May be an extra charge but the general parking garage would be more expensive.Would also suggest leaving the car parked and just take the train between towns(shuttle buses don't go between towns). Would be alot less hassle. Also, you can drive to the hotel to drop off bags but I found it alot easier to just park and carry the bags to the hotel. Main road is narrow with alot of delivery vehicles coming/going and you have'ta get through the pedestrians not to mention it's on a fairly steep grade in most spots.Pack light as you'll probably be climbing some stairs to your room also!
