Parking cost per hour in Siena, Lucca, Perugia

Hello, thinking about renting a car for a couple of days while in Umbria. Cannot find anything on the web telling me what it cost to park your car per hour while you go and enjoy a town such as Siena, or Lucca, etc. Anyone been over there lately, rented a car and could tell me what they paid per hour to park their car while on a day trip? Thanks!

If you park outside the walls of Lucca you can find free street parking. We parked on the north of the town a
few times and walked into the centre. Easy.

Sorry for the double posting - need an espresso! IIRC, we haven't had to pay for parking on the outskirts of Perugia or Siena but Arezzo we were in a lot that charged. The lots are run by the city and the fees
weren't exorbitant. BTW, Lucca and Siena are in Tuscany.

siena are all 1,50€/hour. lucca: http://www.metrosrl.it/# click on "tariffe e abbonamenti" then scroll the page 'till it says "le tariffe dei parcheggi" and a pdf is gonna open showing rates based on the street ("gratuito" means free). usually you don't pay the parking during the night in italy. anyway if you're lucky (or you have patience to look for them) there are also free spots to park the car. spots colored in white means they are free - like this http://www.google.it/imgres?q=parcheggio+strisce+bianche&um=1&hl=it&biw=1280&bih=907&tbm=isch&tbnid=F6utpDgqxC1HCM:&imgrefurl=http://www.miglioriamovelletri.it/nella-zona-della-posta-centrale-torna-una-giusta-percentuale-di-parcheggi-bianchi/&docid=D1mTuqsIEhQk_M&imgurl=http://www.miglioriamovelletri.it/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/280420112130.jpg&w=1024&h=768&ei=_pNwT_KXBozJswbbpYWiAg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=278&sig=103320582069234726146&page=2&tbnh=154&tbnw=195&start=20&ndsp=25&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:20&tx=154&ty=31 spots colored in blue means you have to pay - like this

talking about the way italians park cars, an american that just visited me here said "in italy you don't park cars, you put them". 'cause italians usually leave them even in the middle of the street.

Hi and thank you for your posts! Sorry if I got the area of the country wrong! We are staying in Porano, which I know is near Orvieto, in the region of Umbria? :-) Anyway, this info really helps because we are trying to decide about renting or not and have to factor in parking to the cost of the car rental. Rather than be concerned with the cost of parking I'd be factoring the cost of gas or diesel... We always rent a car in Italy b/c the conveniece of being able to hop in a go to 'off the map' places far outweighs
any costs incurred.

Mary, As you're planning on renting a car, be sure you're aware of the usual "caveats" for driving in Italy. If you need further details, post another note. Cheers!

Hi Ken, ok, thought the rules about driving in Italy were somewhat simple as long as you didn't go into towns with car, but rather parked on the outskirts? Please tell me the problems. :)
Thanks.

This is just my opinion and I have done both..rent a car....and go strictly by train. I won't rent a car again. Trains all the way for me. Petrol is very expensive, driving requires international licenses (Ken has a good post about the requirements) and the parking is a nightmare and you have to worry about your car being broken into. Save the hassle and enjoy the views from the train window!
