Parking at Pisa tower

Hi we are driving to the tower of Pisa tomorrow, and was wondering if anyone can recommend easy parking for the tower. We want to make sure we don't drive in the wrong zones. Also we are coming up from Perugia, anyone have a comment on other sights on the way?

Using Google Maps enter:
VIA CAMMEO CARLO SALOMONE, 22, PISA, ITALY.

Use the "Directions" feature to come from Perugia. Follow the directions.

At the above address there is a major public parking lot that is just steps from the Piazza del Duomo, practically across the street from the city gate that leads to the Piazza. I think the parking is only €2/hr. That is also where the RISTORANTE UNIVERSITARIO (University Cafeteria) is located. You can't miss it, there are always a bunch of college students in front of it coming in and out of the cafeteria. I always park there when I take people to see the silly leaning tower.

We were there with a car last August and found a place on a nearby side street (about 5 min walk) from the main entrance. To pay for the parking, you have to go to the machine on the street and buy a ticket which you place in the window of your car. Personally, I can't stand Pisa - I think it is the absolute worst place in all of Italy. Get out of there as fast as you can and head over to Lucca for a pleasant afternoon.
