Park Laurin Hotel Bolzano

Rick suggested this place, and we booked it. Now I have read that their air conditioning does not work well.

Anyone else had experience with this place and had such trouble? Grazie.

I stayed there in 2015 precisely because the hotel was air conditioned; not many in that area had a/c as of 21015, and the area can get quite hot if you aren't at elevation.

I had no complaints about the a/c, but we're talking 8 years ago. I also don't remember how hot it was; there's a greater risk of very high temperatures now, I would guess.

I'll second the recommendation for reading a bunch of reviews on booking.com. Concentrate on those for stays between June and August.

Grazie. Reviews on Bookings.com are mixed and many many are years old. We are staying there nonetheless. Rick listed it first in his italy book so he/they must have checked it out--at least i assume they do not recommend without checking out the various hotels to which they direct us readers.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel in early May this year. It was quite warm in our room, even with the windows open. My husband complained and we were given a fan. The receptionist acknowledged that the AC had not been turned on yet, but also suggested that this was good for the environment. We couldn't figure out if it was too early in the season to turn the AC on, or if it had something to do with the war in Ukraine. I did find that this hotel was responsive via email prior to our trip, so perhaps you could ask if it is on now. We continued to Verona, Padua and Venice and never really felt like the AC worked in spite of the front desk setting the controls for cold and insisting that the problem was solved. Finally in Budapest, the maintenance worker sent to our room said that the chiller had not been turned on yet. Not sure if the front desks understand this, or if they prefer not to engage. We finished our trip in another warm room in Bucharest, but were told by our tour guide that it was definitely working in early June.

Italy has regulations as to when a/c and heat can be turned on. I believe both the calendar and the outdoor temperature are involved. The calendar aspect varies by region and I've never seen a link to the complete list of rules, so it's not easy to figure out whether a trip may be potentially affected by the regulations. If you aren't traveling in summer (however that may be defined in the Alto Adige), it may not be the fault of your hotel that the a/c isn't working on a hot day.

My stay at the Park Laurin was in either July or August, so there would have been no timing issue with turning on the a/c.
