Need advice about getting to Rome by rail, Preferably doing it by day. We are hoping to leavee Paris on the 19th of Jan to finally arrive in Catania. Would it be better to simply go by air for three adults?
Check the site www.whichbudget.com for budget airlines. You will not find prices for January 2010 until a few months before.
If you do it by rail, how about taking an overnight train? It's a 15 hr. train ride., so you lose an entire day of sightseeing if doing it by day.
Paris to Rome on the train will take you about 16.0hrs. You can fly there a lot quicker. www.vueling.com makes this flight. It's another 9.0hrs to 12.0hrs to take the train from Rome to Catania. www.blu-express.com makes this flight. You can't book yet for 2010 but I see a 22Euro fare for the flight in September.
A couple of big secrets for flying budget airlines. 1) the earlier you book, the cheaper the fare. If you want budget fares, learn how to visit these sites and see when you are able to book. If your plans are firm, book it. 2) Carefully read their rules on luggage and weights of luggage.
