My husband and I will be in Rome in March 15th and would like to attend the papal blessing at 12:00 in St Peter Square.. we have read that no tickets are needed for this event.. has anyone done this and if so, do you have any advice?

We went about an hour or more early and took notice of where the media cameras were set up. We got as close to them as we could and were able to even make eye contact with the Pope as he blessed those Americans in the crowd. He also blessed any number of nationalities, not just Americans. We took lots of photos of the Holy Father speaking from the balcony of his apartment. Good luck.
