I will be in Rome late March 2026 and would like to attend the Papal audience on Wednesday morning. Do I need a ticket or just show up? Any advice or insider info available? RS doesn't say much about it in his book.
Thanks

Also, Google AI has a succinct explanation
The easiest way is to just show up, go through the security queue, and hang out in Piazza San Pietro. You don't need a ticket. There are large screens on which you can see close-ups of the "action," and the pope often rides through the crowd in the popemobile.
And if you get lucky, the pope might swing around in front of you. That’s what happened to me back in 1997. The woman next to me and I were stretching over the barricade with our hands out and Pope John Paul II came by and touched them. We were both standing there stunned after he passed, and the Swiss guard came over and laughed, saying, “So, you will never wash those hands again, right?.” ☺️
