Papal Audience

Some time ago, I read something about setting up to attend a church service at the vatican. Has anyone tried it and if yes, how do I go about doing it. Thanks.

Pope John Paul II did papal audiences but Pope Benedict does not. Your best bet is to attend the Wednesday service (check Vatican website to make sure the Pope isn't travelling). You can get free tickets from one of the Swiss guards just past the security screening the day before.

There are Papal Audiences almost every Wednesday morning (check the Papal calendar for dates). While not a church service, you can see the Pope and have things blessed at the end of the Audience. For a Papal Audience you just show up that morning. If you want a seat, you can ask for tickets at the Bronze Doors where the Swiss Guards stand. That's how we did it and we were seated close to the aisle when Pope Benedict drove by. Tickets are free, of course.
