We are about to book a villa 2 km from Panzano in the Chianti region of Tscany. In a guidebook, my eye happened to catch a reference to "hairpin turns" on the way up to Panzano. Can anybody tell me if these are the scary kind to drive, with sheer drop-offs? One of my party hates those, and it would be nice to know. Thank you. Michael in Seattle
Michael - I've spent a lot of time in Panzano. It is located on the S222 (the Chianti Road). Panzano is a hill town - and they don't call them hill towns for nothing! The road is fine. Sure it's windy. You'll seldom get out of 3rd gear on the Tuscan backroads. The roads are good - there are some "drop offs" but they are no big deal. Plus those areas give you FANTASTIC views. Panzano is an ideal Tuscan home base and there are many great restaurants and wineries. Have fun!
