Pantheon/ Visit and Saturday vigil Mass

We are planning to get to Pantheon early to visit. I would love to also end our time in Rome by attending the vigil mass at 5pm on Saturday. We are Catholic and want to attend mass Saturday afternoon before our very early departure the next day.
I see no tickets/reservation per se for the vigil mass. Does one just arrive for that? How difficult is it to get in? What time should we arrive?
For our tour, some seem to say "just arrive early and get in cash only line" while others say they got their tickets on line ahead. Can anyone who has gone recently lmk your experience with this?

THanks to all of you for your help as we get ready for our trip later this month.

We were just there last week in Rome and visited St. Peters. We didn't need tickets only had to wait in the long security line. I do not believe you need a ticket to attend a "vigil" mass.

Here is a note from their website:
Attending Mass at St. Peter's Basilica
Masses are celebrated daily at St. Peter’s Basilica, the world’s largest church. The service is free to attend for the public. You don't need tickets; however, you do need to wait in line and clear the security checkpoint. So if you wish to attend the mass, you would have to factor in the wait time so you can enter the church before Mass starts. We recommend that you arrive 1- 3 hours before the scheduled start time to ensure a good spot.

Thanks for your reply. Any special tips from your recent visit?

fyI I am asking about the vigil mass at the Pantheon (not St. Peter's)

Sorry about not understanding you meant the Pantheon Vigil Mass. I believe once you are in, find a seat and you will be all set. Everyone else I think is asked to leave for the mass.

One Pantheon tip I do have is if you don't have a ticket and are planning to get one the day you are there - don't wait in line at the ticket Kiosk. Go past the Kiosk and walk to the left of the Main doors of the Pantheon. Through those doors is a person taking money and giving you a ticket to get in. Very little line and waiting.

steve,
Thanks for clarifying. I keep reading on here about the "cash only" line as a fast way to get in. It makes me wonder if I should bother to book on line (not for mass, just to go and look around on an earlier day).

It sounds like the Pantheon is one of the sites that "go early rather than later" makes sense (vs Borghese Gallery that has timed tickets that are actually enforced).
what time of day did you go and did you buy ahead on line?

THANKS
Joanne
