Pantheon Tickets

Hello All,

Do we need tickets to enter the Pantheon?

Thanks!

In the past, no, but Covid has changed things.

For weekends and holidays, you do need to make a reservation, no cost, mainly just to limit crowds.

Any other time, you do need to wait in line to show your "green pass", when we walked by in September, there was a line around the square waiting to get in.

I’ll let you check the Website for current policies, but in October, two months ago, we needed reservations, which had to be made at least 24 hours in advance. This was on a Saturday. Entrance was free, but no one was admitted without the reservation.

There was a timed entry with the reservation. An afternoon church service that day inside ran long, so the line of people snaked quite some distance into, and around, the piazza out front, waiting for the Mass to end. We got in line at the back of the queue, with our hired guide who’d arranged the reservations as part of our tour for the day. The couple just ahead of us were Spanish, and hadn’t arranged for a reservation. Our guide, who spoke Spanish, as well as English (and Italian!), explained that they needed to book a reservation, but unfortunately, couldn’t simply go online and book a reservation while they stood in line.

Guards checked our CDC cards before allowing entry. Once inside, the incense from the just-ended service hung in the air. Even wearing a mandatory mask for covid, the incense made me cough a couple times. We were able to stay as long as we liked.

Thank you so much for the useful information. We will be there in March so maybe things will be easier then (let us hope). Where do we make the reservations?

The website seems to indicate that reservations are only required on weekends and holidays. I sent them an email just to confirm. Thank you all so much!

We are in Rome now and went to the Pantheon yesterday (Friday). No reservations needed. The line was long, but moved very quickly as they only look for your Green Pass (our CDC Card)

Sorry if this is off topic, but what about audio or guided tours?

I know they offer an audio guide, as does RS has a free one. But is it worth it for the guided tour they provide?

Thanks!

I've never seen the need for a guide to the Pantheon. It is one large room, and what there is to see mostly is the room, not really what's in it. There are some religious items as it is also used for services, but mostly it is a large open room with the incredible Oculus above.

It is well worth the visit, as is the Basilica di Santa Maria Sopra Minerva just behind it (and the elephant outside the Basilica). It also well worth going downstairs into previous centuries under the Basilica di Santa Maria Sopra Minerva.

Having a human guide at the Pantheon was helpful, as part of a larger tour day in Rome. She had extra information about the tomb within of Renaissance artist Rafael, as well as those of Italian kings Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I, plus that of Umberto's Queen, Margherita (for whom the pizza was named). A guide for just the Pantheon itself might be hard to justify.

She also introduced us to the Roman “House of Coffee,” Antigua Tazzadoro, just up the block from the Pantheon. Their coffee is outstanding, and I brought home several bags of roasted beans. I just finished the last of it this morning ☹️, so will need to get more again in Rome! 😊

Please correct me if I am wrong, but when I went to the official website, I do not see how you can enter on a weekend without also reserving at least an audioguide. In other words, I did not see an option to simply book the time that you hope to enter on a Saturday or Sunday.

I have been to the Pantheon many times and never needed a reservation or ticket. At some point over the years, I can't remember when, it became prohibited to bring large bags in but other than that I have not encountered any restrictions. We stay near the Piazza Navona so we were able to stop by there very early or late in the evenings and found those times to be much less crowded. I'd check the website for their hours and if there are any unusual restrictions they will be posted. Good luck.
