Palio trials in Siena

We will be arriving in Siena, with our 2 teenage children, ages 14 & 15, on June 30. 2 days before the famous Palio races on July 2. We plan to see the Procession of the Votive Candle in the evening and the trial races the morning of July 1st. We then leave for Florence. Comments and recommendations are welcome.

Wonderful! My husband and I stumbled onto the drawing for a few of the Palio teams three years ago and we found it to be one of the most memorable parts of our trip. Imagine actually seeing part of the racing. Enjoy. Your kids will never forget it.

Thanks for your response. My husband and I have differed on this one. We had to juggle a good portion of our itinerary to make it to Siena on the 30. Of course, I'm in agreement with you and I think we will have a wonderful time. I just hope it is not too touristy or crowded.

We did it last summer with our 4 teens...1st it is crowded..but really really fun--if you hear singing in the street follow it!! And if you go down to the track go early not to avoid the crowds but to get a good spot among them....it was great!!!
