Anyone have recommendations for a BandB near Siena with close access to the bus? Flying to Rome, driving to Siena area for 3 nights before continuing on with our trip. Will be there 8/14-8/17 and would like to take the bus into Siena for the horse trials the 2 days before the actual Palio. And also take a day trip by car to another town. Grazie

I'm not sure you're going to find something this close to the dates. Apartments, hotels and B&B's book up sometimes years in advance. I would use booking.com to see if they have anything available.

It should go to the Palio. It's a unique experience.
Since you plan to drive a car, you should just worry about finding accommodations accessible by car (I.e. Preferably outside the ZTL) and possibly with parking in the premises.
You can drive to the city center (Parking Fortezza, near the stadium) and park there.
On the specific day of the Palio (16 Aug) parking is messy anywhere (I used to go by motorbike from Florence on Palio day). Depending on where you find accommodations we will talk about parking strategies later. You may find accommodations close enough that you could walk from the hotel. The 16th is the only day when parking is scarse (they charge a flat rate of 20€ a day on that day).
Just find accommodations you like, then come back.
