Palermo transfer

We are planning to go on one of the Sicily tours early next year and about to make flight reservations. We expect to go through Rome to get to Palermo but don't know how much time to allow on the return. Any thoughts as to how much time to allow to get from Palermo to the airport in the morning, and how much time to allow in Rome for the connection?

Joe, That's an awesome tour and I'm sure you'll have a great time! You might want to lose a few pounds before the trip, as you'll be putting on a few with the great food in Sicilia. Could you clarify if you're planning to stop in Rome for a day or two before heading to Sicily, or are you planning to transfer and go there immediately? Same question for the return trip. I'd allow at least 2.5 hours to get from Palermo to the airport. As I recall, it will take ~40 minutes via Taxi to get to the airport. The Guide will arrange that at the end of the tour, and you may be sharing a Taxi with another tour member. After that you'll need time to go through security and the usual airport routine. On your return trip after the tour, you'll probably be going to another European airport prior to boarding your flight back to the U.S. That means your flight from Palermo will be an intra-European flight, so check-in time won't be as long (~2 hours should be sufficient). Happy travels!

Hi Joe, My husband and I just got back from Sicily and used the airport shuttle bus to get from the Palermo Airport (where we dropped off our rental car) into town on a Sunday afternoon, and then back to the airport 2 days later on Tuesday morning. Each time the ride took about 40-45 minutes (and costs just under €6/one-way, you can buy a ticket on the bus). We caught the bus at the Politeama stop. For more information on the shuttle, check out the company's website: http://www.prestiaecomande.it/?idPlugin=20768&idx=461

We were planning to go straight through to Palermo via Rome, and then straight through on the way back. Guess airport delay is about 2 hours then, both at Palermo and at Rome? Thanks for the help.
