Jim, all the places you list are terrific, although I don't know if you can cover all the ground you mention for your day of driving, without short-changing the various locations. My own two favorite spots in Sicily were Erice, where I spent my first two nights, and Taormina. I think Erice is much more wonderful as a place to stay than as a short stop during the day. It is an ancient stone hill town, originally Oryx in Greek, and is absolutely magical in the quiet mist of the early morning and evening, even more than during the day when it might be crowded with visitors. Great food there too -- be sure to try the Fish Couscous in that region of Sicily, from the African influence, it's hard to find even elsewhere in Sicily. One tip: do your best to find "city maps" of the cities, even small cities, you plan to visit. I did a daylong driving trip from Erice (Segesta, Selinunte, Marsala and Trapani) with the idea that the last two were just small towns, so I had not even thought about city maps. But when I got there I found they were small cities with so much traffic congestion, no available parking at all, and then the dreaded ZTLs, that I ended up just driving in and out of both towns without even stopping. I was just happy to find my way out of town without hitting anything or anyone! Enjoy wonderful Sicily!
