Palermo suggestions, hotel, time, transport

We are in the process of planning a trip to Sicily and plan to start in Palermo. Any suggestions for places to stay (about 150 Euro max) and any transportation ideas for travel from the airport? How much time should we plan to stay in Palermo? Thanks Don

Don, I'd highly recommend Hotel Tonic, which is in a nice part of town and close to some good restaurants. You'll have to check their website for current rates. Getting to Palermo from the airport is very easy by Bus. When you exit the Terminal, you'll see the Bus stop (to the right, as I recall). Current fare is €6.10 PP. If you decide to stay at Hotel Tonic, disembark at Teatro Politeama. The driver will sometimes call out the stops. You can easily walk from Teatro to the hotel. How long to stay will depend on what you want to see and do there. There's a lot of history there, so three days wouldn't be unreasonable. Enjoy Bella Sicilia!

I stayed at the Hotel Posta on a Rick Steves trip and it was a great hotel, central location and I was able to walk all over Palermo.
You can find the info on the hotel on tripadvisor.

Check out Hotel delle Palme on Via Roma. Nice historic hotel close to most things you'll want to see. As Ken said the Prestia buses are easy from the airport to town. Around 45 mins and there's 6 or 8 different stops. There's a map of the stops at the airport terminal. If you decide on delle Palme get off at the same stop Ken suggested and it's just a short walk from there. Myself, I could spend alot of time in Palermo. Love the place. Check out bestofsicily.com for things to do and see.
