Palermo Sicily hotel recs needed

Staying in Palermo for 5 nights in late April. Will do a couple of day trips by train. Need recs for nice hotels (not top luxury) in a safe neighborhood. Is the train station neighborhood safe? Thanks.

We stayed at the Locanda Santamarina Dimora di Charme. It’s on a side street off the Via Maqueda the primarily pedestrian only street that runs through the neighborhood, from near the train station to the Opera House and beyond. The hotel is only about a year old. It’s in a renovaed historical mansion. The room was very comfortable and the staff were excellent. We would stay again.

We stayed at B&B Delle Vittorie for four days before our RS Sicily tour and loved the location and staff (as well as Palermo). It sits on a corner on Via Makada. I was concerned about street noise since our room was on Via Makada, but the windows did a great job of blocking noise.

I’ve also stayed at the B&B Delle Vittorie and highly recommend it. It’s in a great location; I was traveling solo & felt very safe.

I wouldn’t stay near the train station.

Those hotels look great. Unfortunately, the Locanda Santamarina is on the pricey side for us. And the Della Vittorie is sold out for some of the nights we need in late April. We are planning this a bit too late. The Della Vittorie would be perfect for us. Any other suggestions?

We have just had 3 nights at the BnB Sant Agostino in Palermo. Nice, comfortable, decent breakfast in an old Palazzo. I think around €100 euros a night for BnB, at least at this time of year. Very well situated in the centre - the Via Sant Agostino is where the fabric market is every day.

Take a look at B&B Bagnasco 18. It is located in Piazzetta Bagnasco, right off Ruggiero Settimo. Good area, not far from the Teatro Massimo Opera House and Via Maqueda. From here we walked all over. It is a small B&B in a converted apartment with a large attached terrazza. Breakfast ( pastries and coffee) was included and the building had an elevator. That whole area is filled with shops and restaurants. Very budget friendly. I stayed there in 2025. I have been to Palermo on three trips and have stayed in this general area each time. You might also consider B&B Palazzo Pantaleo, which is more upscale with larger rooms and a more generous breakfast and a very friendly owner. It too, is right off of Ruggiero Settimo and the building has an elevator. The third place I have stayed was closed during the covid pandemic but I see that it has been reopened with a new name and new look. The interior looks slightly different so I am guessing it was remodeled under new management or maybe new owners. It too is in a big old palazzo, right off of Ruggiero Settimo on Via Rosolino Pino. It is called Le Stanze di Bianca and is listed on Booking.com. You enter at street level through a big courtyard/ garage area for the building and then walk up two flights of steps.

See if any of these work for you. They are all B&Bs, not hotels.

I was in Palermo in 2020, and I remember there were a ton of nice Airbnb’s throughout the city center. I stayed in a large flat literally looking out onto Quattro Canti. It was in a modernized secure building with elevator, and was very reasonable. I’m certainly more hotel driven these days, but Airbnb/VRBO (or Booking.com, people list on all of them) can still be a great option in Europe.

Palermo’s city center is super safe. Anything near Via Marqueda between Teatro Massimo and Piazza Bellini is prime.

Thank you all, especially Pat. We booked the B&B Palazzo Panteleo. They are giving us a room in the annex next door, since the main bldg is full. The other places were full. We should have planned this earlier. Thanks again.
