Palermo relaxed walking tour

Hi. Recommendations appreciated for a walking tour route for a senior couple exploring Palermo on our own pace. We are in good health and can do moderate stairs. Our hotel is in the historic center area. Thanks.

The best advice I can give you is to purchase Rick Steves Sicily Guidebook. The tour guide will give you a map and a walk-able route to the typical places most individuals are interested in seeing. Moreover, it sounds like you are following Rick Steves advice and staying in a hotel in the historic district, however you should be Googling the surrounding areas of your hotel if you had not done that already. By using the Google map of Sicily you can zero in on any particular place of interest near your hotel, restaurant or bank ATM. Do utilize any transportation, e.g. train to see additional areas of interests nearby. I would never recommend renting a car to get around Palermo, only when deciding to leave the city. There are YouTube Videos that can help you get acquainted with Palermo, the train station and what to do once you get off the plane at the airport. Rick Steves also, gives good advice in his guidebook on any number of cities in Sicily. Overall, the RS Sicily guidebook is well worth the investment!

We did the walking tour Carol F. recommended and agree that it is very good.

But if want a relaxed route around Palermo, follow Rick’s. We did that as well. They do not overlap very much.
